Most experienced packers will declare Jefferson Park as the prettiest place in Oregon. Some, though, hold out for the completely different Wallawas in the east. Several rivers rise up from the Eagle Cap Wilderness, whose summit can be handled on a scramble.  Climb quickly to about 8,000. This is a busy place in mid summer. Â

The most obvious Oregon volcanoes worthy of backpacking consideration include the popular Three Sisters, the wondrous Jefferson Park (try to drop in from the north) and Mount Hood, where we suggest Paradise Park, maybe. These mountains rise up like isolated islands in the sea plane. They are in the central Cascades. Spend your first night out of the mountains in the town of Sisters, Oregon.
Oregon is a fine place.
